Earlier this year Kyser Musical, makers of the widely popular Kyser Capos, released a powerful iOS App to help with chord transposition, timing, fingerings, and more.
If you use a capo, this App will demystify most questions you may have. For example, the app will tell you the chord name based on the fret-position of the capo. For example, I chose the A-Major shape, one is frequently used with a capo, and had the App place the capo on the third fret. The App correctly identified the chord as C-Major. If I need to play a G-Major, using the A-Major shape, I can virtually slide the capo up or down to find it (it's at the 10th fret).
Perhaps you want to identify what shape you should use for a particular chord after you place the capo on a fret? The App can help here as well. For example, if you have placed the capo on the fifth fret for a song, but you need to play a Bb-Major chord, how would you finger that? Start the Fingering function, choose the 3rd fret capo position, then dial to the Bb major chord. Viola! The fingering for this chord is shown instantly!
The App also includes a free video recording function, which will be killer when Kyser releases their Phone Holder capo, due in the Spring of 2018.
In addition to all the above, you also get a tuner function and a built-in metronome with either Tap Tempo or manual BPM setting.
I find the most powerful tool built into the Kyser Capo App is the visual Fingering tool to discover chord-shapes for any chord, based on capo location. It even works with a "no capo" position, making this a great tool for beginners learning chord shapes.
The Kyser Capo App is fast, easy-to-use, and has features that any guitarist will find handy. Best of all, it's absolutely free!
Highlights include:
- Hands-free Video Recording
- Interactive Chord Chart
- Metronome to see and hear an accurate pulse
- Fingering Charts to practice, change and visualize chords
- Tuner to start pitch ear training
- Transpose feature to switch keys and change fingering
Available now on the Apple App Store for iPhones and iPads running iOS.
